Good looking race card today. Let's rate it a 7 on the 1 to 10 scale of thingsÂ
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â average clarity
5 George From Tahoe  trainer is often at his best 3rd out following layoffs and that is the case here......colt should get a nice close up or mid pack position......recent 10 Jan. bullet work is impressive..........hard not to like considering his best to date is his lone race on the hill
6 Blitzkreig  3 of his last 5 races (all on the grass) fit well in this spot and one of those was down the hill........back to Prat after being absent for a race..........both lifetime races with Prat are his best two efforts to date........very dangerous
1 Sunset Seven  trainer has been on fire with his 1st time starter at the new meeting........so.........why not be ready be with this laid up gelding........and the works for him just like the 1st timer starters suggest this fellow is ready as well
8Â Point Guard
10Â Implicitly
race 2Â Â average clarity
1 Sierra Sunrise  MSW debut was a tune-up........second start dropping into MC was a go but was compromised by a trip with some subtle trouble.......climbing early and then wide on the turn.......need her debut trip with the energy displayed in her last race
2 Boolicious  not much on the grass at a route in her 2nd start.......but she showed plenty of run on the dirt following a horrendous start in her debut.......obviously she needs a better start but lookout if she breaks well
7 Derby Luck  2% trainer with his last 144 but this filly has not run too bad in two MSW races and now takes that ever magical drop from MSW to MC........not impossible but easy to place as our 3rd selection
6Â Comegowithme
race 3Â Â average clarity
1 Sweet Treat  seems like a great spot for a speed horse like this mare who sure appears loose as a goose in this spot......red hot ride/trainer at the helm in Figueroa/O'Neill
5 Tenthousandreasons  last time this five-year old mare had an opportunity to race in a one mile dirt race at SA she popped one strong number........that 12 Oct. race is quite a bit better than par for today's higher level.......trainer is quietly having a solid 2018/19
4 Mistressofthenight  after dropping this mare way down in claiming to 8K Baltas sees fit to move this gal up 4 claiming levels to 20K.......that hints she came out of the race in good shape and that a significant rebound can occur this afternoon.......and she owns back numbers that would crush this field
race 4Â Â below average clarity
4 Jimmy the Juice  2 for 5 at SA on the dirt and 3 for 30 everywhere else..........N Cal trainer is one for two at the SA meeting and has won with 3 of his last 8 shippers.......nice preparatory 4F work at GG 6 days ago.......seems well meant and ready for a meaningful invasion
7 Tavasco Road  significant looking 6F sub 1:12 work at LA a week ago and drops to the lowest level of his career.........decent history at today's 6F distance and he won his only race to date on the SA dirt........danger city
2 Twirling Tiger  seems at his best on the SA dirt and not too shabby at today's six panels.......and another plus is that he has got along with jockey T C Baze quite well.......not out of the win picture.......pun intended
5Â Stringent
race 5Â Â above average clarity
4 Shining Through  nice stalking style which does awfully well on most grass courses including SA's.....that and I like the cut back in distance as his last at 9F should give him more endurance today finishing up with vigor in the late stages of this 8F grass affair
6 Mobou  Mike Smith is red-hot to start the meet and he is awfully tough with front (or close to the front) running route turf runners like colt........that and John Shirreffs who seemed to fall off of a cliff when Zenyatta retired is off to the hottest start in a S Cal meeting in a long time......as in 3 wins - two 2nd's - two 3rd's with 9 starters
3 Muralist  brutal trip in his MSW debut which was down the SA hill grass course........broke slow - ran wide - bumped - bore out for a total of about 8L of trip adjustment......he still finished well to only get beaten by 4L........tries a turf route for his 2nd start and his pedigree is very good to handle the added distance
8Â Storms River
2Â Mystical Moon
race 6Â Â average clarity
6 Tanners Pride  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE Brian Koriner sure has had this gelding ready when placed in a claimer as in 2 wins and a second in 3 claiming races......that and back to Talamo who was aboard for the two wins which were also run on the SA dirt........hard not to like
1 Facts Matter  took a significant drop in claiming in his last and went off at 1 to 1 odds and did not disappoint his backers........like the way he won going away at the wire.......would have rated higher if it wasn't for the fact that the two times he had to break from the 1 post things didn't work out well
2 Mo Soul  2 for 3 racing "fresh" which includes the freshest you can be as in his debut..........3 1/2 months "fresh" today and for a trainer that is very dangerous with laid up sprinters......a.m. prowess supports the notion that he is meant and ready
4Â Zippy Groom
race 7Â Â below average clarity
2 Jumpin Thru Hoops  MSW debut is much better than appears in print as this Miller colt was loose setting a very fast quarter and a solid 1/2 but doing so on a dull inside........did well to only lose by 7 3/4L in a 6 1/2 furlong affair......if the two 1st timers don't have much early gas this colt should be loose and with 1/2 furlong less to run
5 Taos  three-year old has always worked very well including for his preparation for today.......his p.m. prowess has not matched his a.m. work.....but......he runs as a 1st time gelding today and as brilliantly bred as he is his world-class connections must really believe the surgery was necessary to bring the best out of him
7 Dessman  Baffert sure seems due to break out of a mini slump to start the SA meeting and that might begin here with this beautifully bred and expensive colt........big drills as you would expect for a Baffert MSW 1ster........might be rated to low
4Â Norski
race 8Â Â average clarity
4 Tigerbeach  popped his lifetime best in his latest 1st time running for trainer Bill Morey........the effort stands out here if he can handle the SA hill........and usually speed types cutting back from one mile to the hill do awfully well
8 Lil Milo  on the improve with each and every start and his latest is totally hidden by dueling in fast pace on a dull rail.......did extremely well to only get beat by 6 1/4L in a 7F affair.......1st on the grass but bred decently for it......trainer does really well in turf races
10 Lauren's Ladd  ran 2nd and 1st the last two times this gelding raced on the hill........and that was with very low percentage on the grass rider Conner up.......Pratt up today who is red-hot when teaming up with Baltas at this meet
7Â More Honor
5Â Jimmy Chila
race 9  above average clarity
7Â Roy HÂ Â best dirt sprint credentials in the USA and maybe also in the world.....that'l do
6 Awesome Anywhere  loves SA (5 4 1 0) and his race two back fits which is somewhat obvious but his race 3 back also fits and that is rather disguised.........he ran 4 wide then 3 wide on the turn up on a solid set of fractions......should be a price and with the white-hot Mike Smith up
3 Kanthaka  another who is at his best at SA........appeared to need his latest.......he is a G3 & G2 winner both at 7F and at SA........not sure if he can run his best at 6F but if he can and gets a clean trip he is not impossible
2Â Distinctive BÂ Â SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE
race 10Â Â average clarity
1 Daybreak  Carava has hit the board 2 of his 3 last with individuals shipping in from overseas........most of this gals turf races in GB look awfully strong here.......and you have to like that Rosario is enticed to ride
8 Dearborn  away since 26 October but her a.m. work says ready..........her only race down the hill was the best of her career and she earned a Santucci fig that is 2 1/2 lengths better than par for today's lower level.......trainer is 33% win with the MSW to MC move
2 Cat's Desire  brutal trip down the hill in her latest where she earned a fig that is similar to the solid one earned for our 2nd selection........decent rider with long-shots in Fuentes
9Â Baladera
5Â Mela Jones
