Difficult card to handicap but at least we have many top picks with very pricey morning lines. Both Saturday and Sunday are good cards both handicapping wise and in quality.

3  Heraclitus   a.m. work seems awfully strong for the level of racing.......high percentage trainer in Simon Callaghan including with MC 1st time starters.......colt cost 70K at sale 3 months ago so why not debut for 50K

2  El Tigre Terrible   useful debut and improved a.m. work since and racing as a 1st time gelding today ......that and one of Peter Miller's better stats (and that is saying something) is dropping from the MSW ranks to the maiden claiming ranks

5  Delp   solid morning work considering today's level of racing especially for Keith Desormeaux who doesn't push them too hard in the a.m..........mom has tossed 6 winners from 8 starters and three of them were Stakes winners

6  Bitter Ring Home   trainer Neil Drysdale is dynamite 3rd out after layoffs and that is the case today for this 4 year old gelding.......and his last sure appears to be a dirty up his form run to put some doubt into the minds of the claiming vultures lurking

3  Dieci   really seemed to appreciate his 1st route race despite a pedigree that suggested otherwise.......reassuring work since graduation day which was only 20 days ago........seems dangerous if he builds on his winning race

2  Topgallant   Saldana is often at his most dangerous 2nd out following a claim and that is the case here........and his five year old appears to appreciate the Dmr dirt over any other surface........one negative is that he does tend to hang some

5  Marilyn's Smile   very consistent in sprints (turf or AW) especially when Ricardo Gonzalez is on her back as in (6 5 1 0) with his last 6 rides on this filly.......that and N Cal trainer McCanna has done fairly well in the past shipping into Del Mar

1  Maycee Jo   very big race on the AW at GG which was run off of 3 months rest........her last race was run 4 1/2 months ago.......decent history in 5F turf sprints.......and draws the best jock that she has ever had on her back in Flavien Prat.......should be in the hunt from the get go......hard not to like

4  Fantasy Heat   decent winning MSW debut and at today's 5F turf distance at SA.......and she won from off of the pace with wasn't easy at 5F on the grass at The Great Race Place.........tossed a clunker in 2nd start which was a two turn affair.......deserves a rebound shot especially at the 5F turf distance

6  Miss Voluptuous

3  Lady Ninja   Breeders Cup type fig in her latest and just what you want to see as in plenty of recovery time off........(5 3 1 1) for Baltas with the blinkers on.........5 for 8 at today's 6F distance.......2 for 2 with today's jock up........should be one tough cookie

2  Fighting Mad   won her 1st two lifetime races and then tossed a clunker at Pim........works since the 17 May disappointment are stellar even by Baffert standards.......dangerous despite being only three

6  Spend Spend Spend   lifetime best in latest and this filly won her lone race at Del Mar impressively......still she likely will need a new best today to find her way to the circle of joy

6  Hurley   tepid top selection has improved with each and every race (filly has learned to take back early and responded well to it) since Wong took over the training duties 3 races back.......and her last on the grass at GG at today's 1 1/16th distance is rather impressive.......hot turf jock Garcia takes the mount

3  Strike At Dawn   totally dead on the board in her latest her 1st racing for Richard Baltas........3 bullet works since the 16 June tune-up/gimme.......full throttle today

1  Anonymously   decent shot to get what she needs as in a loose lead.......would have rated higher if this race wasn't at 8 1/2 furlongs as it might be a little too far for her unless she really gets to slow things down early

4  Soldier Boy  solid work regiment for this Sadler 1st time starter who went for a cool 350K as a two year in March of 2018......rather sure this colt can run some

1  Midnight Mystery   somewhat disappointing (esp. by Baffert standards) in his two lifetime races last Fall......but the way in which he is training for his return to the race wars hints he is returning a vastly improved individual......well shall see if that is so about 6:30 p.m. Pacific time

3  Deuce   solid in both lifetime starts at the MSW level despite only going for chump change at sale.......and now he gets a rider upgrade.......should be in the hunt from the get go for Martin Garcia who sure has made a nice comeback in 2019

7  Ippodamia's Girl   filly just ran her lifetime best and by quite a bit racing for Lerner for the 2nd time.....she earned an adjusted Santucci fig (mostly for pace) that is 4L better than par for today's level........3 drills since hint she might be up to similar today rather than regress

5  Zaffinah   cut back in distance should help out this sharp Cavara runner when push comes to shove in the late stages of this race.......so should a switch back to Raffy who rides this mare well

2  Achira   broke a little tardy and then rushed some which used her up too much early.......improved a.m. work since........new jock today who seems likely to get a nice ground saving mid pack position at least thru turn one.......and that my friends is 1/2 the battle.......should go off a nice price

9  Fifteen to Vegas   nice spin around the track in his debut at odds of 27 to 1 hinting the connections were always shooting towards a significant drop (MC75K to MC20K) for his 2nd start.....and his works since his debut hint he benefited from the race.......only needs a small move forward and a better trip to be a major factor in the outcome of this race.......come on Iggy

2  Passing   trainer is often at his most dangerous route to sprint and in this case it is route-route-sprint......that and Keith Desormeaux cuts his maiden claiming price in half......hard not to like

6  Funusual   SCRATCHED   another like our top selection who seemingly had a nice spin around the track in his debut.......in his case  at very lofty odds of 56 to 1 hinting the connections were always shooting towards a significant drop (MSW to MC20K) for his 2nd start.........but whereas the recent drills for our top pick are good his are not.....thus 3rd selection
