Santa Anita for Thursday 3 October 2019
OK card today. Let's call it a 6 on the 1 to 10 scale of things.
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â average clarity
4 Be a Shero  good efforts in both 5F grass races and the extra 1/16th to work with appears to be a plus as this three year old filly has finished up well in her 5F races........and wisely Flavien Prat sticks around
2 Factor of Two  likely was hurt in his 2nd lifetime race as he was up the track as the heavy favorite way back in June of 2018........his debut was solid and highly likely surprised the connections as she went off at 39 to 1.......she likely wasn't all that cranked up but she sure appears to be for today's layoff run........1st on the sod but bred just fine for it
3Â Miss Stormy DÂ Â 2 of 4 lifetime five furlong grass races fit solidly here........filly has trained sharply since her latest on 2 September.......would have considered her for a better placement than 3rd pick if it wasn't for being a touch leery that she will flatten out some running as far as 5 1/2F
1Â Cellar Door
race 2Â Â average clarity
5 Be Lifted Up  filly seems better on the dirt than the turf........most of her 6F dirt races fit well in this spot and she might be even better in her 1st sprint at 6 1/2F the way she finishes up her 6F races.........that and she races 1st following the Glatt claim which is usually one dangerous proposition for the opposition
3 Winsinfashion  last three races when this filly was up for a tag (3 1 1 1).......toss her last as she was placed too ambitiously......winning race two back is better than it appears in print as she dueled on a slightly dull rail and still won going away at the wire
1 Rattle  improving sort is one of only two speed types in here (2nd choice is the other)........not sure if she continues her improvement and if she wants to run as far as 6 1/2F but if she comes up on the positive side of both she has as good a shot as anyone of winning this race
race 3Â Â above average clarity
4 Muthhila  filly appears to need a little softer racing level and trainer Meah is willing to give it to her.....that and she gets by far the best grass rider she has seen to date in the red hot Abel Cedillo.....hard not to like
3 Fort Love SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  1st start with Gallagher as the trainer and 1st time this filly has ever been in a claiming race........that suggests this is not a gimme off of a 10 1/2 month layoff or she would have been placed in a protected race.....turf figs out east fit.......very tough if she is fully fit and ready
2 Lucky Stepper  wide trip from on outside post vs. better disguises a solid forward move.......inside post today.......if she has held form and V Espinoza gives her the ride he did 3 races back she will have a shot to take down this race
11 AEÂ Discreet Diva
7Â Avalon Ride
5Â Greater Glory
race 4Â Â average clarity
6 Sheza a Factor  exits a very fast heat at Lrc which like today was also a 6 1/2F 25Knw2 race on the the dirt......and her previous 3 dirt races (3 back & 5 back) aren't too shabby either.......low percentage trainer but not when he rides Edwin Roman
1 Incredibly Lucky  this filly lived up to her name in her last as she got to duel and than get loose setting a slow set of fractions......doubt that occurs today as our top choice has some speed.....but then again she might feel really good coming off a seemingly stress-free run/win
4 Zillinda  definitely has been at her best racing on the SA main track.......that and her best to date was run the only time she raced at today's 6 1/2F distance and the race was on the SA dirt........3 improved drills (back on the SA dirt) has her ready to roll.......chances will be enhanced if our top two selections duel
race 5Â Â above average clarity
4 Great Return  Richard Mandella is firing on all cylinders of late and can keep the ball rolling here with this filly who is consistent and steadily improving.........best numbers in the race and the the controlling speed......that combination is often one tough nut for the opposition to crack
6 K P Slickem  three year old filly has hit the board 8 of 9 lifetime races with the only blemish coming in a Grade 3 affair.......lifetime best and a nice fit here is her lone grass race run at one mile which was 8 weeks ago.......she's been away since but her a.m. work indicates her readiness as does the fact Mike Smith stays up.......and it is his lone mount on the card
5 Lucky Peridot  just won a fast heat of alw nw's at Lrc racing turf to dirt......in fact her other lifetime win was also run turf to dirt where she won by 14L.......so is this a gimme of sorts to once again set up the turf to dirt scenario or a full blown go.......we shall see
7Â Don't Blame Judy
race 6Â Â average clarity
4 An American Jet  big awakening in his latest his 4th lifetime start.......and today he gets a jock upgrade........7F seems like it will fit him well and the extended sprint distance will be tough on many in this field
6 Ohtani  high percentage trainer Bill Spawr is often at his very best racing route to sprint (7 for his last 19)........three year old drops to the lowest MC level of his career........seems better suited to sprinting and gets to for the 1st time in 5 races.....dangerous sort
5 My Journey  takes the plunge that is ever so dangerous......as in dropping from MSW racing to the bottom MC level of $20K........1st on the dirt but he owns a pedigree that should handle the transition........and his a.m. work supports the notion.......very dangerous
3Â Go Sammy Go
race 7Â Â average clarity
3 Bella Figura  nice improvement in her latest for Richard Baltas who does a great job with east coast runners he takes over.......filly could have won 25 August version of this race if not for being blocked about 3L on the turn and the stretch.........Prat winds up on our 3rd choice but Van Dyke will do
2 So Much Happy  owns plenty of early gas but so does the number 7.......but #7 goes from an inside draw to an outside draw and loses the best speed rider on the grounds while this filly goes from an outside post to an inside post.......so......this three year can get loose today.......thus making her dangerous at a price with the rail out 20 feet
5 Tinnie  Mandella is firing on all cylinders to start the SA fall meeting.....with that in mind this girl's MSW turf sprint debut is likely nothing more than a public work-out to be fully fit for today's drop into MC........solid turf route pedigree........and the fact Pratt stays put supports the idea this is where this girl was always pointed for
4Â Katsaros
10Â Prance
