Del Mar for Friday 15 November 2019
Day 5 of the Del Mar Fall meeting. Be back with you tomorrow for day 6.
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â above average clarity
4 Hartel  best route turf speed in the race and two of his three one mile grass races sure look tough here........and one of them was at Dmr.........lifetime best was in his latest in a race run 3 weeks ago........and since he has put in a very reassuring work hinting he has held his sharpness
6 Of Good Report  three year old gelding flattens out running past one mile.........all three of his lifetime wins were at one mile and two of them were on the sod........one mile turf race today and drops one claiming notch.......that and the cut back from 9F to 8F should help this gelding's endurance when push comes to shove in the late stages of this 40K claiming race
5 Swamp Souffle  seems best at turf distances greater than today's one mile affair......but.......his lifetime best was at one mile on the main track so maybe his ability at 8F on the grass isn't as bad as his running lines suggest
race 2Â Â average clarity
4 Love of Art  very consistent sort who has run efforts most of her career that sure look capable of winning this affair........last time she raced turf to dirt he came home a winner......turf in last and dirt today......gets Cedillo.......trainer is stout 2nd out following a claim which is the case today
5 Heart's Passion  (2 1 1 0) at the distance albeit on the synthetic at GG........but her races on conventional dirt seem OK.........away since 21 September but with five straight tightly spaced drills put in since......hungry trainer in Hollendorfer who needs to win NOW unless of course he gets reinstated to race at Santa Anita
6 Comformation  not too hot to date at running decent back to back races (nor is the trainer) but maybe this filly will today getting to compete at a distance where she is (4 2 1 1) on the dirt
race 3Â Â average clarity
2 Venetian Harbor  Baltas doesn't have many MSW debut winners but that is likely but design.........he appears to be breaking the mold with this filly who seemingly is out-working anyone in this field........two year old has a decent turf pedigree.........and look who lands on the youngster.......Mr Flavien Prat
6 Morning Addiction  another working as if she might be up for a strong race in her MSW debut........owns a good turf pedigree and she shows some signs that she has some early speed........hardly ever a bad thing at the abbreviated 5F turf distance
5 Aqua Seaform Shame  both lifetime dirt endeavors seem good enough that if she can mange more on the turf she might be a major factor in the outcome of this race.......pedigree for the lawn seems about average
4Â Beguiled
3Â Del Mar Drama
race 4Â Â average clarity
3 D's Lovely Sophia  consistent filly appears to have a terrific spot in this non-claiming affair........both of her lifetime races on the Del Mar main track stand out here.......that and Flores knows this filly well and has done a nice job riding her in all of her 5 lifetime starts
6 Tizanillusion SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  mare has only competed on the dirt 3 times in 25 lifetime races winning 2 and running 4th in the other.......and her career best was run turf to dirt which is also the case this afternoon........that race was run off of 70 days rest.......106 days rest this time around and with sharp a.m. work showing........rider/trainer have two wins and a 2nd over the last two months as a team
4 Oh My Oh works sure hint that Hollendorfer has tweaked something for the better........and.......Jerry needs to win now as he is ruled off at SA
1Â Tapitha Bonita
race 5Â Â average clarity
9 Flying to the Line  9 post is no picnic in one mile grass races with the rail out 30 feet but this filly has cleared by the turn twice before from outside draws which were on the 8 & 10 posts.......drops and drops with a significant rider upgrade......lifetime best was the only time this filly raced at one mile on the Dmr turf........hard not to like
1 Red Bunting  last two one mile grass races are 2L better than par for today's level.......nice ride by bug boy Diaz on 31 Oct. breaking from the same 2 post as today.......and in general Red Bunting is a fairly smooth running individual
2 Saburai  no punch in her latest despite what seems like a perfect stalking trip .......and in general her bugaboo is a lack of punch in most of her races.....maybe getting to run for a 3rd time off of a layoff for the 1st time in a very long time will provide more endurance this afternoon
6Â Untouched Elegance
4Â Leading IndicatorÂ
race 6Â Â below average clarity
5 Going to Vegas  tepid top selection in a tough race to decipher........ sprint-sprint-route maneuver for this girls 3rd lifetime start and a for a barn making all the right moves........that and the filly vs. the guys gets a total of 5 lbs off for her sex and the fact she is entered for 45K
7 Itsthattime  1st at a route for this improving two year old and that might be a good thing as so far mom has tossed quite a few that handled two turns.......jock upgrade to boot
2 Temple Bar  lifetime best by far was this youngster's lone race at Del Mar......the race is better than par for today's level so if he can handle the distance just as well he will be a major factor in the outcome of this one mile affair
8Â Prince Rickey
1Â Taco Waco
race 7Â Â average clarity
1 Doc Yco Cheeks  both lifetime turf races are slightly better than par for today's higher level and both somewhat disguised in their strength ........retains Bejarano and for the 1st time he gets better post to work with........filly seems likely to save ground thru turn one sitting mid pack
4 Sapphire Kid  T C Baze has fit this filly well in the past........filly has some solid back numbers that fit very well vs. today's competition........sprint to route move today and for a trainer in Chew who is often at his best 2nd out following a layoff which is today's scenario
7 Lucky Ms Jones  2 of 3 mounts/rides on this filly for G Franco are not so hot.......needs to do better and from a tough post with the rail out 30 feet......but if the 11% turf rider over his last 222 (somebody tell that to the TVG crew) can pull it off this filly fits fine here
3Â Rose Drum
2Â Avalon Ride
race 8Â Â average clarity
5 Loafers Boy  1st time starter is working as if he is meant and ready to roll at 1st asking......and this race sure seems like a good spot for a debut runner with some ability because nobody in the field has shown much so far
9 Grandpa Louie  decent race two back which was run off of a 2 month break.........needs to now produce similar off of an 8 month hiatus........works hint that he will........hot rider/trainer combo in Cedillo/Miller at the helm
3 Tigre Di Slugo  2nd most dangerous looking 1st time starter in a race as mentioned above seems like a good spot for a debut runner with some ability because nobody in the field has shown much so far........only 4 year old in the field and went for a big price at sale for a Cal bred........as in $190K as a yearling
2Â Afternoon Heat
