Santa Anita for Friday 3 January 2020

OK card today. Be back with you on Saturday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

5  Norski   two of this fellow's three races since the blinkers were put on are very solid here........if of course he can run as well racing in a route race in his 1st attempt in one........tough call

6  Fast as Cass   consistent sort but those 3 2nd's and 7 3rd's in 19 lifetime starts is rather glaring.......as in he has a strong tendency to hang in the stretch when push comes to shove

3  Tiz a Slayer   one for one competing at Santa Anita and the win was at today's one mile dirt distance.......needs that race at minimum and likely a little more to get to the circle of joy

race 2    average clarity

3  I Belong to Becky   not the best of trips in his latest but a his race two back would likely win this race and is greatly disguised in it's strength.......gelding set a fast pace and did so on a slightly dull inside and manged to hold together vs. better.......believe Miller is lured by the 16K nw3 condition as opposed to hoping to lose this fellow.......and after all he only took this gelding for 16K back in October

2  Toothless Wonder   so far this gelding has responded for bug boy Velez and his weight break awfully well.........four year old likes the SA surface and seems best on it racing 6F.........last race run at SA is slightly better than par.........and unless you are touring pro golfer slightly better than par is a good thing

5  Roaring Fork   a.m. work sure hints that Sean McCarthy has this five year old fit and ready off of the 10 month hiatus from the game.......gelding has some races that can definitely win this affair.......do note that even though I believe this fellow is ready the trainer is 0 for his last 25 off of layoffs of greater than 3 months

race 3    average clarity

5  Sapphire Kid   Knapp and company luck out here as their 1st out following the claim new addition to their barn sure has a great spot as their new shooter catches a soft looking group of Cal-bred alw fillies & mares.......lifetime best for this gal was run the only time she raced at today's 9F turf distance

2  Moonless Sky   seven year old mare has moved forward the last two times she ran 2nd out after a layoff.....that is the scenario for today and her layoff last on the AW was rather decent.......good history on the SA turf (10 4 1 0)

1  Quinnie   no shot in her lone attempt to run as far as 9 furlongs as she dueled in a ridiculous fast pace and predictably tired........that and she owns a pedigree that should handle 9 furlongs........good rider/trainer combo in Franco/Gaines

7  Rose Dunn   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

race 4    average clarity

2  Diosa   2 of 3 lifetime races at SA look good vs. today's foes and the best of the two is disguised some but setting a decent pace and on a somewhat dull rail......away since April but 1st time racing for Hess and trainer likely accepted the training duties under the condition the connections place their filly where she has a good shot at success.......12.5K nw2 fits that

5  Jabber Now   away from the game over one year but she sure is training as if Knapp means business in her return to the race wars.......only race at SA run on a fast track is solid.........Knapp has a poor history winning off of long layoffs but this gal's a.m. work is too good to ignore

1  Laker Jet   cut back in distance for this Robert Bean filly should aid this gal's endurance.......last time this filly got to race on fast rated dirt (4 races back) she won by 8L to graduate

race 5    average clarity

4  Tinnie   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  might have a decent chance of stalking a couple of two weak speed types in front of him.......and how's this stat for Richard Mandella (10 for his last 19 racing his stock in claiming races).......that's called "not messing around"

8  Invincibella   in need of a drop (5K earned in 2019) and filly gets one.........her numbers fit fine at today's significantly lower level and she is a rather smooth running type on the grass.......seems likely to make a good account of herself here

9  Point Hope   might be much better on the SA grass than the Del Mar grass.......if that is so lookout today as this gal is racing 2nd out after a layoff and dropping some in class

3  Diamond of Value

2  Harper's Gallop

race 6    average clarity

5  Savvy Gal   Baltas just won (a few days back) with a horse trying the dirt for the first time following success on the turf.........similar scenario for this three year old filly today......that and this filly looks loose here if she does take to the dirt and with Rosario up for the 1st time

1  Gingham   seems best taking back some so Baffert makes a wise move by taking the blinkers off this thee year old filly........and the youngster seems at her best racing at Santa Anita

4  Rare Find   filly likely needs her best today and might provide it as she got away with a pedestrian pace in her last to graduate........decent shot that she feels good coming off of such a seemingly stress-free set of fractions

race 7    average clarity

9  Rookie Mistake   strong move forward in his latest and showed he can handle the sod with a nice 3rd in his MSW debut........two nice gate works preparing for today.........seems tough here if the jock doesn't get caught too wide on the turn

1  Coalinga Road   par like effort in his MSW debut which was on the Dmr Mar dirt........OK pedigree for the grass and one of Carla Gaines better moves is "1st on the grass"......as in 8 wins with her last 33 making the switch to the lawn for the 1st time

5  World O Luck   seems like the most dangerous of the 6 1st time starters entered in the race.......rider/trainer have won 1 of their last 2 teaming up as a team and the with the other hitting the board

2  Austin's Boy

3  Big Billy

race 8    average clarity

9  Katsaros   seems to need ample time between starts and Sadler shows patience and gives it to his filly.........1st ever on the dirt but her works on it are good and I like her pedigree better for the dirt than the turf.......and she drops down multiple levels

5  Buyback   four year old filly has shown life in all 3 lifetime starts and she has the potential for her best ever today as she gets to race where she trains.......and trains rather well considering today's low level of racing

4  Manresa   decent MC30K debut which was in a one mile affair.......so.......she should have an abundance of endurance in this 6 1/2 furlong race when push comes to shove in the late stages of the race......low % trainer has been doing better the last couple of months and some of his success has been with jockey Brice Blanc

7  Suezaaana

8  Root Beer Rag

race 9    average clarity

2  Querelle   jock upgrade especially for a grass and 1st out following the Miller claim........Rosario/Miller have been hot as a team and they have a good chance to continue their success here.........last three races look awfully good at today's lower level and all three were run at today's one mile grass distance

8  Dulverton Darling   both numbers/efforts run at 9F on the turf fit fine in this spot.......maybe she can fit in the late stages of this affair as there might be a fairly decent pace set up front

4  Bella Figura   all three races run in S Cal are par like efforts and her latest is disguised by way to wide of a trip........trainer is often more dangerous 2nd out after a claim and he sure does well with his turf stock

6  Persephone

7  Trust Fund Kitty
