Santa Anita for Saturday 15 February 2020

Nice card today. Be back with you tomorrow and also on Monday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

6  Swamp Souffle   solid win in his latest at the $25K claiming level which seems more than deserving of today's step up to the $32K level......that and he seems at his very best competing at today's 9F turf distance......jock knows him well as this is his 9th straight mount on the four year old

3  Tequila Joe   exits the same claiming race as our top choice where he finished one length behind him........and like our top pick he fits the 9F turf distance awfully well.......that and his two wins at the distance came off of 4 weeks rest or less........27 days since he last raced.........hard not to like

7  Tough It Out   also exits the same 19 Jan race as our top two picks finishing 6th but he was only 2 1/4 off of the winner.........seems like a good move to put the blinkers on as he has been far back early and has closed fast but to no avail.......switch to Prat who stands out here as the best grass jock this gelding has seen in many a moon

5  French Getaway

race 2    average clarity

1  Kirsch Truffle    away since April but she seems to be working well enough to fire a decent fresh effort......that and she sure catches one soft looking field.......four year old filly from the Miller barn should be forwardly place done the backside and possible on the lead

5  Mongolian Sunrise   1st timer is working well enough to be ready at 1st asking and if she is this appears to be a spot where a first time starter could in one weak looking group as those that have competed.......none of them have been in the money

6  Osteria   very sharp in the a.m. preparing for her 1st route race........Maldonado gets the call for the 1st time hinting the connections are going after the lead.......speed has done well in dirt routes at the meeting

race 3    average clarity

2  Leatherneck   solid winning dirt debut two back.......OK route turf race in latest.......trainer is a dynamite 36% win with the sprint-route-sprint maneuver and he has been firing on all cylinders for most of the meet......hard not to like

5  You'reright Again   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  speed did well yesterday and this Lloyd Wicker three year old gelding sure seems like the most likely front runner.......that and Cedillo gets the call after being absent for a race and he looked good handling this youngster two back.......that race was at 6 1/2F and 6F appears to be a better fit.......such a deal

1  Princeofthenorth   impressive 34 to 1 debut win overcoming a bad start and and still managing to win......would have rated higher if he hadn't drawn a tough post for a horse who might not be too hot out of the gate.......but lookout if he breaks better

race 4    average clarity

3  Sky Jumper   Baffert drops this fellow out of MSW racing following a decent turf sprint which makes me slightly suspicious........ but........the Hall of Fame trainer is awfully decent at the maneuver........the Baffert runner might be the kind you can consider wagering on but not usually worth a claim........four year old should be in the mix from the get go

1  Cape Point   this drop out of MSW racing makes more sense than our top choice as the connections tried turf sprint and turf route with their four year old to no avail.......if he handles the dirt he should fit today at the MC50K level and with plenty of endurance when push comes to shove in the late stages as he is coming off of a route race

6  Tailback   some of the earlier works (in the late fall) for this Puype 1ster are quite good and hint that he has some talent........since those strong drills the barn hasn't shown anything too flashy maybe to keep the claiming vultures at bay

race 5    average clarity

9  Raul Rosas   ran one solid MSW debut way back in summer of 2017......that dirt race would crush these if he can duplicate it on the turf.......2nd start came 17 months later and is much better than it appears in print (about 7L better).......didn't like slop and/or got hurt in 3rd start.........been away since the 2 Feb 2019 race........returns with a terrific prolonged work series.......drop makes sense as this fellow is making his 4th start at seven........sure like his chances if he takes to the turf

10  Terrible Ted   owns some speed and I sure like his pedigree to handle his 1st on the our top choice he is racing off of a long layoff but also like our top pick his works suggest he is meant and ready to roll

2  Mayan Warrior   four year old has fired when he is placed up for a tag and he is up for one today.......he seems better suited to a turf sprint and yet he still ran 2nd in a turf route in his lone lifetime grass race........dangerous sort

6  Factorial

8  Battle of Memphis

race 6    average clarity

1  Bowl of Spaghetti   laid up since 14 April but has a nice wind him up prolonged work regiment that should have him fit and ready fresh off of the bench........if he can run as well on the dirt as he did on the grass in his latest not only should he grab the lead by he also should be difficult to wheel in

7  King Parker   might be a gimme/go situation and if that is so look for this gelding to stalk our top choice and attempt to over take him on the turn or the stretch........two drills since his layoff (subtle in strength) run support the notion that it was tune-up and that it worked as intended

8  Time N Money   last was poor but it was run off of a long hiatus from the game........blinkers on to shake things up.......needs race two back and if he is up to it he (like our 2nd pick) likely will stalk our top pick or possible even grab the lead

2  Big Headed Baby

9  Git On Your Pulpit

race 7    average clarity

2  Coast of Roan   ran a par like number in his latest in the 9F turf version of this Cal-bred alw race with 1st time Rispoli.......strong a.m. work since the 18 Jan race......likely will have plenty of endurance cutting back in distance a full hot turf jock wisely stays put

11  Foster Boi   3 of 4 lifetime grass races fit very well here and he would have been top pick if he hadn't once again drawn the outer most post when racing at the one mile turf least Prat knows him well as he has been up for all 5 of his lifetime starts

1  Kakistocracy   very competitive in both lifetime starts and he appears to be a "smooth" running turf type......still he likely needs a small forward move and if he provides one he sure has a good post for Van Dyke to work out a good trip once again

3  Incredible Luck

7  Push Through

race 8    above average clarity

4  Hard Not to Love   one eyed wonder usually exits the gate poorly and can be a handful in the warm-up but once he gets going she has a ton of talent.......that and I like that Smith stays up for the 3rd straight time as he is getting to know her quirks

5  Mother Mother   another who is awfully talented and should find good position thru-out the race.......if fact if this race was less than 7F she would be top pick........but she is 0 for 5 at 7F and 3 for 5 at other distances.......still she seems likely to get a good trip which should help her chances of getting her first score at 7 panels

3  Lady Ninja   needs a move forward and maybe that can come from the blinkers being removed today.........she likely is going to take back some........if she does look for her to finish better in the late stages of this seven furlong affair

race 9    average clarity

7  Frasard   rider change is definitely a plus.......cut back in distance seems like a plus.......and he owns some solid early speed which should help Vav Dyke get him on over by turn his chances if that is what transpires

5  Show Business   not much cooking in four lifetime starts three of which were run in one mile MSW turf races......but he is racing as a 1st time gelding today and with a work tab that strongly suggests he will run his 1st good lifetime race today........that and Richard Mandella has been firing on all cylinders to start the SA meeting

8  Jurgen   big race in Ire last summer thus he got bet hard in his USA debut on New Years Day at SA........might have won if not for being blocked in the stretch.......with Rosario not racing at SA today Rispoli (same agent as Rosario) gets the mount.......and on the grass the new addition to the SA jocks room is as good as anyone and might be the best......dirt is another story

6  Absolute Unit

11  Pure Carmine
