Santa Anita for Sunday 22 March 2020

Purchase for our special publication for Florida Derby day at Gulfstream Park (7 Stakes races only) on March 28th is now available. As in the past the selections will be sent in your email Friday afternoon at approximately 5 p.m. central.

How cool and impressive that Santa Anita and Golden Gate will be donating all profits to help the war on the corona-virus. You might want to tell your bored friends that are not into horse racing about it and of course point them to The Racing Digest.

Bummer as there is rain in the forecast which makes this card rather difficult and adds more handicapping. Looked at multiple forecasts and the range that the rain starts is from 11 am to 3 pm.

Best of luck as always!

race 1   average clarity

(if the race is taken off of the turf 10-1-2-5-3)

10  Lofty   obviously has a ton of ability sprinting on the grass as you don't see too many back to back 4+ length winners in turf sprints at SA.......only negative I can see is that the post might hurt as she might veer out some at the start with the outermost post

3  Sunrise Royalty

7  Smiling Annie

2  Nardini

1  Cheap Cheap Cheap

race 2    average clarity

4  Majestic Diva  moves down on an off track so if the track is rated good or worse you might want to switch our top two picks.......race two back at 7F would crush today's competition if this mare can run as well at 8 furlongs

2  Tiz Wonderfully

6  Indypendent Deputy

race 3    average clarity

4  El Diablo Rojo   gets to cut back in distance and race turf to dirt which should help out his staying power for this extended sprint of 7 furlongs.......races as a 1st time gelding and with just what you want to see as improved recent works.......jock won 3 yesterday including one for trainer Craig Lewis

2  Audace

3  Golden Sparkle

race 4    average clarity

(if the race is taken off of the turf 8-6-1-3-2)

6  Neutrino   Salder is as dangerous as anyone with 1st time starters debuting on the grass in a look good especially for a has tossed one winner from one starter and that starter liked the grass

3  Arch Ability

9  Uncle Ray

10  Bedrock

8  Palaleo

race 5    average clarity

1  Conquest Cobra   believe this elder statesman will hold his sharpness as Belvoir likely would have dropped him some as he has in the past........and the fact Prat sticks with him for a 3rd start time supports the notion.......eight year old gelding has the best history (by far) at today's somewhat specialized 7F distance

2  Black Storm

3  Fabozzi

race 6    average clarity

(if the race is taken off of the turf 1-9-3-10-5)

10  Mind Out   three year old filly displayed an abundance of ability on the turf at two especially at today's one mile distance........she was the most impressive runner in her 2nd start in a Stakes race run in Oct despite running a one length beaten 3rd........blinkers go on.......Prat wisely stays up for a 3rd straight race.......filly has shown she can run fresh.......hard not to like

1  Savvy Gal

5  Parkour

3  Clivetty

race 7    below average clarity

3  I Can Do This   very consistent on the SA dirt and seems to appreciate the one mile distance at SA the most.........trainer is strong 3rd out following layoffs which is the case for this gelding...........rather sure he will fire another strong race but careful as he doesn't pass the last horse to win very's rider Abel Cediilo does have one of his two lifetime wins

2  Dano's Dream

5  Jamming Eddy

4  If Id Told You

race 8    average clarity

(if the race is taken off of the turf 7-4-5-9-3)

7  Lieutenant Dan   terrific/consistent dirt sprinter hasn't done well in dirt routes but does just fine in turf suggests that he should take to turf sprinting in a big way.......that and did he ever just work impressively as in 58:3H albeit over at LA......easy to make top pick-a-rue

4  Just Grazed Me

5  Tigre Di Slugo

9  Stealthediamonds

3  Brandothebartender

race 9    below average clarity

5  Cross Town   decent speed and gets Prat on his back for the 1st time.......posts 1 thru 5 have won almost all the dirt route races........runners inside of this gelding appear slower early so he should grab the inside and likely be on or near the lead from the get go.........trainer Belvoir is quietly having a decent SA meeting

3  Indy Jones

7  Bird

6  Derby Storm
