Santa Anita for Friday 15 May 2020

Santa Anita is back in business. Cross your fingers it stays that way with two obstacles to overcome as in keeping a spread of the virus at bay and avoid break downs. My apologies for fewer comments this weekend as the sudden change in tracks has made us behind in our work.

So so race card today but at least we only have one favorite as our top selection and the ML on our top choice is 8 to 1 or higher in 4 of the 9 races. Might be a "feast or famine" kind of day.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

10  Thanks Mr. Eidson   Jeff Bonde three year old colt was on the improve with each and every race last summer finishing his two year old campaign with a solid 4th in a Grade 2 on 10 August........he has been absent since but returns with copious drills put in......1st on the turf but owns a good pedigree for it......if he takes to the sod he should be in the mix from the get go and tough throughout

6  She's so Special   filly versus the boys but her two races sprinting on the turf fit just fine in this nw alw for three year old runners

5  Drop the Chalupa

9  Governance

4  Party Town

race 2    average clarity

11  Instastory   three year old filly has some works (now and then) that suggest she owns some talent especially for a state-bred MC50K .......and mom has tossed 2 winners from 2 starters and one of them was a Stakes winner.......how about a Jeff Bonde double to start the re-opening of SA

2  Curvaceous   another 1ster training quite well for the given level......and.......Adam Kitchingman wins his fair of maiden claiming races and that includes 1st time starters.......good dirt sprint jock in Victor Espinoza

4  Miss Ryleigh

10  Reds Tribal Heart

8  Queensbeccaandjane

race 3    above average clarity

3  Galilean  amazing that this outstanding Cal-bred is still eligible for this nw alw race........would have won his last if not for a bad trip....broke poorly/rushed to duel in a fast half.......all his fast track races fit solidly here and his a.m. work hints he has remained sharp......back to Prat (missing for his last race) making for a rider upgrade

5  Strictly Biz  big MSW debut at two on 7 Sept 18 dueling in quick fractions and still managing to draw off and win by over 4L.......next start was at three 9 months later and was another strong effort running a big grass sprint that was compromised by a bad trip..........big works - has to be ready as it might be a long time before he can race again

9  Tale of the Union

1  Silken Prince

8  Appreciated

race 4    below average clarity

1  Stick Up   D'Amayo filly has closed well at a tougher level in both of her 5 1/2 furlong dirt races........she should appreciate not only the drop in MC but another half furlong to work with.......it is also reassuring that she handled the one post quite well in her last and with today's jock up

9  Polar Route   bad start and a wide trip cost this filly about 6L in her latest her 1st on the dirt and at a couple of MC levels higher.....like our top choice she should be motoring late

2  Pammi Dearest

10  Elemental

5  Our Bonnie Lass

race 5    average clarity

1  Heathers Grey   shows up every race and she ran way too well to lose in her latest as A Gryder gave her a wide trip and did so up on the pace.........she did extremely well to only be 3 3/4L behind the winner at the wire.........plenty of nice a.am. work since the 7 March race.......come on Aaron

2  Lostintranzlation   six year old mare is by far at her most dangerous off of layoffs and she is working as is she will be today as well coming off of a 4 month break.......as usual she should be on the lead from the get go

3  Ellie Arroway

11  Gypsy Spirit

5  Hollywood Girl

race 6    average clarity

3  C Dub   latest race and 1st for George Papaprodromou as the trainer was likely a prep race for today (and a good one as despite finishing 5th out of 7 to start he showed plenty of life with a bad trip) in a protected race.......1st at SA but his a.m. prowess at SA suggests he appreciates the surface and George P. is quite reliable when he shows good works for a given horse.......speed is his main game but take note he also won from off of the pace after a bad start

4  Treasure Hunter   not like Glatt to place a claim at a much higher level following a long level.....so that says the race was the gimme for today's significant drop in claiming price.........and the a.m. work sure is strong......hard not to like

9  Adens Dream

2  Erotic

8  Oh Marvelous Me

race 7    average clarity

4  Kayla's Cowgirl   takes that somewhat magical drop from MSW racing to MC20K which for this filly makes plenty of sense as she has hardly earned her keep ($6K since 22 November with 5 starts) ........30% win with 215 starts in 2020 for Wong..........1st on conventional dirt but her a.m. work at SA says she likes it

2  Golden Melodie   bet hard in the 15 March version of this MC20K race but didn't get the best of trips from Figueroa and finished 3rd........ a.m. prowess since the race is improved........likely sitting on her best in a very long time

1  Csaba Momma

5  Civil Suite

8  Tenga's Jubilee

race 8    above average clarity

9  Muchly   filly seems best at today's one mile turf distance.......she ran a strong race in her latest which was her first in the good old U S of A......the effort was compromised by a poor start and a bit of an early rush.......new jock in Prat today.......improved work regiment......solid trainer in Callaghan.......should be tough despite a difficult post

10  Dupioni   exits the same race as our top choice and she also was racing 1st time off of the plane from Great Britian.......she beat Muchly but did so with a better trip.......earned the same Santucci fig in the race.......tough post but Valdvia did a nice job from the 9 post in her latest endeavor

5  Lavender

1  Quick

7  Avalon Ride

race 9    average clarity

4  Big Mel   Baffert three year old colt went for a cool $800K as a yearling........a.m. work for this 1st timer is exceptionally strong with speed and endurance put in........likely feeling great as she just worked 6F five days ago and yet is able to recover for today's race

3  Ka'nah   four year old ran a giant effort in 2018 as a two year old racing turf to dirt for his 2nd lifetime start.....strong fractions and a solid final time........turf in last and dirt today for his 4th lifetime start.....it's not rocket science

11  Lane Way

6  American Code

5  Rayray
