Santa Anita for Saturday 16 May 2020

My conclusion was that the inside was slightly dull yesterday so I "slightly" leaned that way with today's picks. Be back with you on Sunday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

5  Brickbat   copious drills put into this MC20K 1ster from the Craig Lewis barn and the last 3 preparatory works suggest this gelding is peaking at the right time.........mom has tossed 5 winners from 5 starters.....not too shabby

9  Sensuous   away since 8 Mar 19 but training up to snuff and takes that magical drop from MSW to MC20K......and trainer Shelbe Ruis does awfully well with limited starters including with the MSW to MC move

14  Lil Sydney

3  Royal Aspirations

7  Street Image

race 2    below average clarity

8  Silk From Heaven   four year old filly is at her best racing at 5 1/2 or 6F and her top surface seems to be the SA main track.........and she seems improved since Hector Palma saw fit to put the blinkers on his four year old filly........responses well to sitting close to the front and she might be able to do that here in a race without much speed signed up

2  Songofthedesert  front running sort and jock Abel Cedillo has options as this mare is capable on or just off of the pace ........high percentage trainer in Wong has won many races up north at GG using Cedillo

7  Wishful

1  Time for Ebby

3  I Want One

race 3    average clarity

5  Himiko   brilliant works and a brilliant pedigree........combine that with the worlds best conditioner of three year old runners in Baffert and you have one dangerous 1st time starter.......mom has tossed 5 winners from 6 to start and that includes 3 grass winners.......low % turf rider up in Diaz but he is often very dangerous teaming up with Bob B

4  Navetta   SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE   bad trip in her MSW debut (which was the 7 March version of this race) breaking poorly and racing wide......she did awfully well to run a 1 1/4 length 2nd.......well prepared in the a.m for her 2nd lifetime start

3  Affianced

9  Moonhall Milly

12  Fierce for Sul

11  Scarlet Lips

race 4    below average clarity

4  Kershaw  toss out his last at OP as he has a dismal record on off tracks.......race 2 back  at SA and at today's one mile dirt distance was stellar and a repeat of the effort wins this affair.........and it is nice to see the jock who rode him that day is back in the saddle

5  Multiplier   seems to be about a 60/40 chance a hot pace will develop and if it does it plays into the hands of this late running six year old from the Miller barn.......that and Peter M. had a nice day yesterday and might be in full go mode following the forced break at SA

3  Justinian

race 5    above average clarity

4  Go for a Ride   both lifetime one mile turf races at SA fit well in this spot........trainer Ryan Hanson was on fire when SA was shut down in late March and likely will be looking to keep the good time going with this gelding he received from the retiring Anna Meah........should get a nice stalking trip

1  Worthy Turk   five year old gelding seems best routing on the grass and the light bulb in Peter's Miller head went off as he not only races him in a turf route but he drops his runner down a notch.........very dangerous mid pack runner

8  Liberal

5  Speakerofthehouse

2  Kris' Wild Kat

race 6    average clarity

9  Phantom Boss   bad trip in his latest and he was likely injured in the 30 August race as he has been absent since......preparatory works are up to snuff.......he won a Grade 3 at CD last June......don't see anyone capable of that in this field

8  Big Sweep   Glatt passed putting this filly in the filly version of this Stakes race which in race 8 today.......my guess is he likes the weight break and the fact outside of our top choice the male Stakes looks soft

7  Better Trip Nick

2  Rookie Mistake

4  Summer Fun

race 7    above average clarity

2  She's Our Charm   McAnally trains one game four year old filly as I have been impressed with all 4 of her races.......that and all four are better than they appear in print........rider upgrade and that is rare for Brice Blanc with the strength of the SA jockey colony

7  Dogtag   good layoff race for this ex Chan Brown runner who is now trained by R Mandella......work regiment since the 8 March race is impressive.......hard not to like

5  Desert Oasis

3  Strike At Dawn

race 8    average clarity

9  Warren's Showtime   4 for 5 on the lawn but 0 for 2 on the dirt........but both dirt races were compromised by not the best of trips........her last dirt race was 3 back where she was in tight and wide doing awfully well to finish 3rd beaten 4L in a $200K Stakes.......not my favorite rider but he knows this filly inside and out as he has been aboard for all 7 of her lifetime races

1  Smiling Shirley   believe this filly is at her best in dirt sprints and that is somewhat hidden.......Smith up in a Stakes race and even at his age he is still as dangerous as anyone on earth when the real money is up for grabs

3  Been Studying Her

7  Warren's Moon

5  Bulletproof One

race 9    average clarity

(13 AE Frasard has a shot if he draws into the field)  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

2  Eastern Ocean   not too bad of a turf sprint in his last which was his 2nd lifetime start and 1st with Glatt as the conditioner........but what really catches my eye is his vastly improved a.m. work since the race with the blinkers off (assuming of course they were off for his works).......race lacks speed and many of his works suggest he has some now

1  Heywoods Beach   very strong stretch run in his latest especially considering the lackluster pace being set up front......like our top hoice recent improved a.m. work........good post for solid turf rider Rispoli to work out a ground saving trip

6  Lemonade Stand

11  Fire Polish

8  Capital Call

race 10    average clarity

5  Sorriso   decent MSW turf sprint debut and now takes that ever significant drop from MSW racing to MC.......that and Glatt is very stout with the turf to dirt move with 2nd time starters.......Glatt's stock was impressive yesterday........hard not to like

8  Hapi Hapi   not much in his 2nd lifetime start but his maiden debut was decent and disguised by a poor trip-a-rue.....broke slow and than checked and ran somewhat wide.......did well to beat 6 of 9 foes........laid up since his 2nd start run last September but his preparatory works suggest he is more than ready for his return to the race wars

10  With Due Cause

4  Handsome Cat

11  Desert Swarm
