Santa Anita for Friday 5 June 2020

Decent card to start a fabulous weekend of racing at The Great Race Place.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

1  Eagle in the Sky   two year old colt has a nice pedigree for a Cal-bred and a decent work regiment with some hints of speed.........mom has tossed an impressive 6 winners from 6 starters........Mike McCarthy 1ster draws the services of the red hot Abel Cedillo........should be tough if he manages a good break from the gate

3  Bolden   Peter Miller MSW 1st time starter is also well bred for a Cal-bred and finished up his a.m. work with two consecutive gate works hinting he is well meant in his debut

6  Tripp a Matic   Luis Mendez is dynamite in these early baby races........this two year old gelding ran evenly while his barn mate won the race giving Mendez his 3rd win in the two year old ranks already........might not have been all that meant......lookout if that is the case

7  Big Fish  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

2  Investment Account

race 2    average clarity

1  So Much Happy   Tiago Pereira snapped out of a small slump this past weekend with 4 wins and might keep the ball rolling here with this four year old filly who should be the controlling speed in the race.........last race where she was up for $32K fits and the works since suggest she is more than deserving of today's small step up (level/par is about 1 length faster)

8  Sutro   (4 2 1 1) when Smith has been aboard in turf races........like our top selection this filly deservedy steps out of the claiming ranks after a strong effort in 25nw2 claimer (today's level/par is about 4 lengths faster)........whereas our top pick will be in the vangard early this mare will be coming from far back........that might have the bases covered

6  Malibu Cat   four year old filly is on the improve and she might keep the trend intact as she likely will appreciate her 1st ever turf route as her pedigree is awfully strong for two turn racing........and Prat sticks around for one hot trainer in Glatt

3  Goodtingscominpink

5  Sunriser

race 3    average clarity

3  Justin's Quest   no support at the windows whatsoever in this gelding's latest (68 to 1)........yet he ran awfully well and the strength of the ffort is disguised by a very wide trip and being only 3L off a hot pace.......good time to risk and drop and also get eligible for the SA50Knw2 races........and he draws the attention of meets top gun in Flavien Prat

2  Rogallo   another dropping into claiming for the 1st time and with many efforts that are better than par for today's lower level (about 4L easier)..........good combo in Rispoli and Sadler over the last 60 days (3 1 1 1).......four year old is also racing as a 1st time gelding today so there is the potential for improvement

7  Claim of Passion   yet another racing in a claiming race for the 1st time to enhance his chances of success........the D'A is 255 win and 56% in the money with his last 48 "1st time in claiming".......big race 4 back and the strength of the race is better than it appears in print

6  Knifes Edge

race 4    average clarity

1  Shanghai Truffles  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  four year old filly is best in turf route races and draws the hottest rider around in Abel Cedillo........that and trainer Pat Gallagher seems to have snapped out of a prolonged slump........a trifecta of reasons to back this filly

6  Arctic Roll  five year old mare is best off of short rest and is back quick for today's race........and the fact that Prat had a win and then a 2nd on this mare and then was not up for her latest (which was run off of 3+ months) only supports the idea the race was a tune-up as Prat is back aboard today........up and coming trainer is in a mini slump but might jump start his mojo here

8  Buyback   since the reopening of SA Matt Chew runners have been preforming better that his overall record indicates and his record is not bad at (15 2 1 3)..........since this girl's decent 2nd at GG she put in a work that is vastly better than what she has shown in the past and that is rather subtle

5  Kittyhawk Lass

3  Untouched Elegance

race 5    average clarity

6  Mayan's Warrior   strong race in his latest which was the 22 May version of this race albeit run at 6F........and it seems very significant that a cheap claimer put in a strong 5 furlong work and still is able to race back in only 2 weeks rest.......that hints at an individual who is feeling good

2  Tromador   (5 1 3 1) on the dirt since the blinkers were put on this four year old colt........and two of those four races were run at SA........one was a win at 7F and the other was a 3rd (beaten only 1/2L for the win) at 6F......that and this Ryan Hanson colt is capable on or off of the pace giving Velez options

1  Bob's Sniper   last seems like nothing more than a muscle him up endurance building route turf race to drop to the lowest level of his career......and he draws Cedillo who is riding great and thanks to his agent getting on many live runners

3  Include the Tax

4  Swamp'n Ain't Ez

race 6    average clarity

6  Lanvender   when Matt Chew has legged up Jose Valdivia his horses for the most part have been live over the last 4 months........that and this girl's only win came 3 races back with Jose up........1st race running as far as 9F but her pedigree screams "the longer the better"

1  Unicorn   nice record when competing as a "fresh" filly as in one win and three seconds from four fresh efforts........last race on 24 January......draws Cedillo for the 1st time.......running lines suggest she will appreciate the 9F distance........Baltas is very solid at getting a given runner to extend themselves distance wise

3  Kookie Gal   back to Prat who sure has fit this filly well (4 2 1 0) while other jocks combined are (4 0 0 1)......my guess is Prat will get this filly to sit a little closer which she has done in the past

race 7    average clarity

4  World O Luck   decent 1st on the dirt in his latest and the effort was somewhat disguised in its strength........the race was way back in late February but he has worked 9 times since......he showed enough speed in the race that he has a decent shot at grabbing the lead which has been a very good place to be in these one mile dirt races at SA........trainer is cold and the jock is a little chilly......maybe they can help each put a smile on their faces

7  Mongol Altai  MSW to MC25K today for this colt's 2nd lifetime endeavor..........low % trainer but not with the MSW to MC move as he has won 3 of his last 7 with the move and with another running 2nd.......that and colt gets a rider upgrade

10  Next Revolt  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE  rather skeptical of today's massive drop from MSW to the (new) bottom MC25K as this colt improved plenty in his latest first time running a route.......and even if he is still in relatively good health he gets a tough post to cope with especially for a low percentage rider up for the first time

6  Brickbat

2  Untimate Mystery

race 8    average clarity

5  Contagion   Doug O'Neill's four year old ran a nice turf prep race in a protected race off of a long layoff to muscle up like only the turf can do sometimes.........back to Cedillo who owns a win and a 2nd in 2 turf mounts (last summer)  on this fellow.......and maybe more importantly this four year old has worked 10 times since his 8 March layoff run

2  The Creep   somewhat short number wise but it looks as if he should get a good trip on or near the front end saving ground in a race that has a decent shot to reward those that do........that and Jorge Velez seemingly is at his best with speed types

8  Tartini

4  Fabozzi
