Del Mar for Sunday 12 July 2020

First card that I like at Del Mar handicapping wise. Hope the track surfaces play fair/even.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

5  Good With People   very strong 4F bullet gate work to finish a.m. preparation for this Peter Miller MSW two year old 1st time starter.........and mom has toss 4 winners from 4 starters and 3 of them were Stakes winners.......rather sure this is one good baby especially for a Cal-bred

3  Eagle in the Sky   par like debut in his MSW up north at Santa Anita.......and more can occur today as Mike McCarthy is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters than 1st time strters

7  Big Fish   another who ran a number that is par for the level......and he sure acts as if he will appreciate another 1/16th of ground to cover.......this appears to be a strong heat of two year old Cal-bred MSW runners

6  Finding Silver

race 2    average clarity

5  Winning Element   very solid history when today's rider Flavien Prat has been up........1st at 1 1/16 but the distance should fit well as he handles 8F & 9F well.........and he is one for one on the Del Mar turf.........a trifecta of reasons to back this six year old gelding

4  More Over   bad trip in his latest or he could have been "right there" at the wire........and he has the right to improve as it was his 1st race in a year.......did not hit the board in either of his two lifetime Dmr turf races but both were Stakes races and he was only 2 1/4 & 4 1/4 behind the winner at the wire

8  Dubby Dubbie   invader seems like the lone speed in the race so if Kent Desormeaux can slow him down some he might........................go.........................all..........................the............................way...........dreaming of fall football not to mention hockey and baseball

6  Cupid's Claws

2  Kazan

race 3    average clarity

4  Jewel Thief   terriffic trainer with shippers in Brad Cox (andin many trainer catagories) sends west from OP a three year old filly who is (5 2 3 0) lifetime and a very strong fit in this spot if she handles the Del Mar dirt as well as she has handled the main tracks at CD and OP.....and most importantly she is eligible for the lucriative bonus money for out of state shippers

3  Dehydration   improving sort is also eligible for the lucraitive bonus money for out of state shippers and she sure seems to be on the improve.......if the trend continues for her new barn (following the claim at CD) she has a decent shot of taking down the top prize

2  Queen of the Track   four year old filly ran much better than it appears in print in her latest which was run over at Lrc........she dueled on a very dead inside at Lrc.........did really well to only lose by 1 1/4 at the wire..........and she might have muscled up running on the deep part of the track as Mike Smith shows up for one mount on the card........rider/trainer are (5 2 1 1) over the last 2 months

race 4    average clarity

1  Master Ryan   solid improvement in this fellow's latest and the strength of the effort at CD is disuised by a lousy trip.......lone race at Del Mar was a solid 2nd at today's 5F turf distance......the D'A is often at his most danerous 2nd out after a layoff which is the case today for this four year old gelding

7  Lil Richards Bello   wide trip in his MSW debut which was on the dirt or might of graduated at 1st asking.......major rider switch for the better this afternoon.......turf pedigree is decent......hard not to like

10  Stir the Pot   colt was already fast early and now gets blinkers on for the 1st time........good grass rider in J J Hernandez gets the call......cut back of 1/2 furlong should be a plus.......should be in the mix from the get go and seems as likely as anyone to have the lead by the turn........dangerous sort

5  Cal's Gem

2  Caerulean

race 5    average clarity

5  Bedrock   best to date was run the only time she raced on the dirt.........the effort was run on 24 May at SAtwo races back and is somewhat disguised in it's strength......ran way too wide and up on the pace.......that effort with even an average trip should beat today's foe

2  Street Image  should be able to get a loose lead........combine that with the cut back in distance and you have a dangerous front runner......trainer has had a tough year.......seems due to get on a roll

6  Poise to Strike   strong improvement 2nd out following a 21 month hiatus.........likely rated too low and he can live of to his name if this gelding moves forward again

4  Strike It Lucky

race 6    average clarity

7  Sedamar   four year old filly his been in the money in all 11 lifetime turf races and seems at her very best on the Del Mar sod (5 3 1 1).........and her two races at SA in 2020 on the sod are not too shabby..........that suggests that with the change to her favorite grass course she might be up for a lifetime best today

1  Super Patriot   (7 3 2 1) since the Baltas claim.........five year old mare is the best late runner in the field by far..........good post and a deadly combo of rider/trainer in Prat/Baltas.........hard not seeing this mare not being a major player in this race

3  Ziarah   red hot four year old mare is shooting for her 5th straight win........might be better on the main track but it seems noteworty that she is a perfect 2 for 2 racing in one mile turf races.........her regular N Cal rider Frank Alvarado is up

5  Desert Oasis

race 7    average clarity

3  Tacoflavoredkisses   decent preeeding for a Cal-bred and mom was a quick sprinter and her foal is training as if he can fly........trainer is awfully stout with his two year old runners........and look who takes the mount - Prat

6  What's Up Surf   for the most part Peter Miller has been ready with his two year old runners and he appears to have another cranked up and ready to roll..........and note that N Cal jock Richado Gonzalez rode a Miller two year old yesterday and won gate to wire

1  Colavito   bet hard - ran OK in his MSW debut at GG on the AW........like his pedigree for the conventional dirt more than the synthetic dirt.........would have rated higher if it wasn't for the fact few have won from the one post at 5F on the main track over the last 4 summer meets at Dmr

2  Rantanen

race 8   above average clarity

4  California Kook   Cal-bred just ran great vs. the guys and she earned an adjusted Santucci fig the sure looks good in this spot.......she handled the 9F of turf so 1 1/16 seems fine and it won't be for many in this field........and the Prat/Miller combo is as relieable as it gets

3  Red Lark   three year old filly ran great vs. older in her last only losing to one tough lady in Toinette who would crush this group........filly is a very strong finisher and like our top pick-a-rue the 1 1/16 turf distance should fit her well

8  Going to Vegas   Baltas might have made quite the 50K claim as this filly is on the improve and her latest race fits just fine at today's alw level.......and Richard is 33% win 1st following a claim with his last 45

1  Moonhall Milly

9  Kustom for Karl  SCRATCHED OUT OF THE RACE

race 9    average clarity

2  Principe Carlo   11 for 15 in the exacta on the dirt and (4 2 1 0) at Del Mar on the dirt........Delgadillo has done a nice jock riding this four year old colt........should be tough if he holds form

4  P R Radio Star   trainer doesn't claim many but when he does he is usually very dangerous 1st following a claim.........that and this claim out of CD is eligible for the ship and win money.......big step up but gets Prat to help him make it a successful one

1  Kneedeepinsnow   (3 2 1 0) in his last three conventional dirt races.......colt is capable of winning on or off of the pace.........latest race is one powerful effort.......rated too low if he can repeat it

5  Tiger Dad

race 10    average clarity  (SHF carryover of $15K)

6  Golden Doughnut   sure likes racing at the one mile distance turf or AW (5 2 2 1) and did he ever run an impressive race off of one long hiatus from the game as he was last seen on 30 September 2017........should be tough if he exited the race in decent shape

1  Unusually Handsome   one strong late runner for a Cal-bred retains Prat who when teaming up with Miller has won 1/2 of the time over the last two months and that is with numerous runners.......good post to boot.......hard not to like

2  Push Through   Freeman/Reddam/Gutierrez won on opeining day and might have a shot to visit the winners circle again with this five year old gelding who apprieciates ample time between starts........and 7 weeks since heis latest qualifies for that......dangerous sort

4  Ostini

3  King Eddie

5  Rustic Canyon
