race 1    average clarity

6  Caisson   Richard Mandella's MSW 1st time starter is extremely well prepared to handle a turf route in his two year old debut..........copious drills every 6 or 7 days apart dating back to early May with many drills put in at 5F & 6F.......colt owns a good turf route pedigree.........trainer is 12 for his last 50 with individuals debuting on the sod........Prat takes the mount and he likely could have taken many others in this field

5  Big Talker   trainer Tim Yakteen won with 2 of his first 3 starters the 1st weekend of racing and he appears to have another prepared to challange for the top prize with this MSW 1ster..........good new sire and mom has tossed 4 winners from 4 starters and two were Stakes winners......and more importantly 3 were turf winners.........Mr Smith wants the mount

2  Gone Rogue   no action on the board in debut.......big jock upgrade.......gimme/go?

8  Dyn O MIte

7  Flint Stroll

race 2    average clarity

4  Vertical Threat   Lrc is a quick surface for sure but it is hard to see anyone else in this field able to run a 108:3 like this colt did on 27 June at Lrc...........two reassuring drills since.......three of the five in here are speed types to date which bodes well for his off pace style

3  Ragtime Blues   colt might be the speed of the speed.........Baffert/Smith at the helm........colt is the top money earner in the field with a record of (4 2 2 0).......hard not to like

2  Thanks Mr. Edison   potential for a strong turf to dirt race today

race 3    above average clarity

6  Lambeau   seemingly the best speed in the race and with Mike Smith up that spells trouble for the rest of the field......you don't see John Shirreffs with too many route speed horses but when he has one he is ever so tough........that and eventually he often teaches them to rate some which I can see in the future for this promising four year old colt

1  Kershaw   misplaced in his latest in a 14 furlong grass race for some exercise and to dirty up his form to get away with today's drop into high priced claiming........(3 2 1 0) at Del Mar and he is competing at his favorite distance this afternoon......should stalk our top choice or might even lead......not out of the win picture by any means.......pun intended

3  Dark Vader   likes to run outside and staying off the rail was a positive yesterday

7  Potantico

4  Bold Endeavor

race 4    average clarity

2  Merneith   nice Baffert filly who seems better suited to sprint racing has yet to compete on the Del Mar surface in the p.m. but if her a.m. work is worth a hoot she should be one tough cookie this afternoon

3  Provocation   double barrel action from Baffert as he also trains our top selection........three year old filly went off at 3 to 5 and came thru for her backers.........and she might feel awfully good as she set a soft set of fractions which I doubt took any toll whatsoever physically speaking.......Mike Smith rides back..........very dangerous

6  Secret Keeper

7  High On Gin

race 5    above average clarity

1  Unicorn   consistent filly has never missed the board in six turf starts and her two best were the two that were run past one mile.......combine that with her running lines (which hint she has a great chance to appreciate the 11 furlongs of turf) and her trainer/rider (Baltas/Prat) and her recent works and it all adds up to a to a top pick-a-rue

7  Pretty Point   lifetime best two races were her only two run as far as 10F.........and it is hard to imagine her not handling another 1/8 with the way she finished in her two 10F races........Smith wisely stays put

3  Woodfin   low % trainer but she does decently shipping into Del Mar

8  Never Be Enough

6  Sutro

race 6    average clarity

10  Dennis Celery   little shot in his latest which was this baby's 2nd lifetime start.......he dueled in reasonable pace but did so on a dull rail at Lrc........he did well to wind up a 1 1/4 length 3rd.........nice 4F best of 10 drill at Slr since........tough post but enough speed and a good jock up to overcome the post

2  Father O'Flaherty   trainer a decent 15% win with his last 66 MC 1ster's......last three works are out of the gate for this Miyadi two year old which hints he is well meant today.......also the trainer's go to jock of late Pereira is up

4  Hot Box   might have disliked the Lrc surface as he has worked well at SA and more importantly Dmr

3  Wedding Groom

5  Call Sign Lucky

race 7    average clarity

5  Mystery Man   colt was caught wide pressing a hot pace in his MSW debut.........he did well to beat 1/2 of his foes in a race that has turned out to be a key one.......he owns a decent turf pedigree and retains Mike Smith.......cut back in distance should aid his endurance when push comes to shove in late stretch

4  Absolute Unit   blocked in the stretch in his latest or could have graduated.......improved a.m. work since the 14 June 5 1/2F turf race at Santa Anita......might be sitting on his lifetime best and with one fine turf rider up in Umberto Rispoli

9  Much More Halo   sprint-route-sprint scenario for 3rd after a break......big bullet drill a week ago

6  Highly Distoted

8  Tilted Towers

race 8    average clarity

4  Octopus   very game effort in his latest to win having to "restart" multiple times because of trouble......and that folks is something you seldom see on the dirt.......rider upgrade with the claim.......might be a good claim by Bob Hess

3  Hidden Promise   CD invader is on the improve with each and every start and draws Prat hinting that Sadler and company are all out to snatch the added money for shippers.......7F appears to be a good fit and won't be for many in here

5  Agamemnon   disliked turf in 2nd start.......won his debut on the dirt despite a wide trip on a good rail day......hidden city

2  Itsthattime

10  Zimba Warrior

race 9    average clarity

3  Laura's Light   one of only three speed types in this affair and this filly is more than capable of winning on or off of the pace........and she has the right guy on her back as Cedillo is (4 3 1 0) riding her and all of races were Stakes races on the grass

9  Warren's Showtime   just popped her lifetime best in a two turn dirt Stakes at SA and she might be better on the turf where she is 4 for 6 while on the dirt she is 1 for 4.......if that is the case she might be able to overcome a tough post and wind up being a major player in this Grade 2

1  She's So Special   better in sprints so far in her career.....but in high demand Prat stays on her following 2 straight turf sprint wins

6  Cheermeister

4  Over Attached

race 10    above average clarity

5  Maximum Security  nothing like picking up a four year old who has already amassed $11,801,900 in earnings.........works are brilliant for Baffert's new star.........Cedillo surprisingly but deservedly gets the mount of his career

1  High Power   awfully nice individual to be the 2nd choice in a non Grade Stakes race but if our top choice runs his race he will be tough to wheel......still.......this horse is 1 for 1 at Del Mar on the dirt where he won tha Pacific Coast Classic G1 by 5 1/4 lengths last year.......hard to ignore that.........dangerous for sure

6  Midcourt   track played wide yesterday and if that stays the same today it might be upset city here

race 11    below average clarity

6  Smiling Rose   somewhat of a breakout race in latest especially pace wise and claimed by Ron Ellis.......four drills since the mid June race at SA.........decent history on the turf at Dmr out running his odds in both races at Del Mar........Maldonado rides thru the claim........might be a decent price

8  Sassyserb   yet to run out of the money in 6 lifetime turf races all of which were routes (6 1 3 2 0).......1st time Prat and 2nd time racing for Baltas.........Prat/Baltas are 7 for there last 16 as a team.......away since March but training like she is ready

1  Oh Pretty Woman   Cedillo is not the trainer's go to guy over the last two months as in 0 for 12........but........figs do fit for this mare and the jock won a race riding her last Feb.

2  Nice Ice

7  Kristi's Tiger
