Santa Anita for Friday 9 October 2020

Please check our racing calendar as there are 2 days (only) that we won't have a publication for during the remainder of 2020 and they are coming up soon.

Also Del Mar is implementing a 50 cent pick 6 which I have advocated for for a long time as I believe the pools will be larger than the pick 5 pools. That will provide a chance for large payoffs every day as in no waiting for multiple day carryovers with a the $2 base pick 6.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Chipper   Pratt is having one of the best starts at a S Cal meeting in many a moon as he has been in the exacta 31 times with 48 mounts.....cudos to him and also of course to his agent.........1st at a route for this Glatt three year old who is training the best of his career........great grass jock should be in the mix from the get go saving ground........trainer is (10 2 5 2) to start the fall SA meeting

6  Carmelita's Man   on the improve with each start and it was rather impressive the way this colt was able to "restart" after being checked very hard on the 2nd turn......might be a very game sort

5  Luvluv   another who is on the right end of the learning curve and if the trend continues this afternoon I don't see any reason that he can't battle for the top prize

2  River North

1  Mamba Cool

race 2    average clarity

1  Impression   gelding loves contact to the front end of things and he seems likely to sit either 1st or 2nd by the time he hits the back stretch........he also appreciates the one mile dirt distance (6 for 13 on the dirt at one mile and 0 for 14 racing anywhere else).......Pereira stays put thru the Peter Miller claim and the veteran rider has done a nice job riding this seven year old

4  Autumn Day   trainer change for this gelding who finished up 2019 rather dismally......but.......he sure is training like a different much improved horse for new trainer Ryan Hanson.......and the fact he steps him up 2 levels hints he has the trump card for this five year old

6  Blame It On Kitty   seems best on the SA surface and also seems best at today's distance.........but.........the drop is somewhat suspicious.........but then again if this O'Neill four year old runs his race 2 back he likely will end up in the winners circle

race 3    below average clarity

6  Just Grace   brutal trip in her return to the race wars following a 14 month hiatus from the game..........she earned an adjusted for trouble Santucci fig that is 2 1/2 lengths better than par for today's lower level........Cedillo will be out to make amends

5  Senoradiablo   new to the scene trainer Manuel Ortiz is 2 for 4 to start the meeting and he sure has this filly training as if she will make a necessary rebound in form today........and at a distance she appreciates as in 2 wins, a 2nd & a 3rd from 5 starts at 6F

2  Stormin Ranger   somewhat suspicious drop following the Kitchingman claim as this filly ran awfully well in her latest winning despite a wide trip......but the "listed" preparatory  works are good........tough call but sure is dangerous if this gal's health has remained OK

7  Takes a Village

3  Give Me a Hint

race 4    average clarity

4  Miss Ever Ready   back vs Cal-breds following a decent 4th vs. open company MSW runners.......both lifetime one mile grass races are good enough to win about two thirds of the time for the today's given level.......1st time blinkers and 1st time is the potential for better today

2  Warrens Candy Girl   lost to our top choice when she last raced on 9 Aug but earned fig a better by 1 1/2 lengths.......but she has been off since and has worked just choice might have a fitness advantage

6  After Midnight   decent turf debut in a 5F sprint at Del Mar.........mixed bag trainer Carla Gaines is decent 1st time she sends a given runner around two turns but only so so with 2nd time starters

9  Big Andy

8  St Helena

race 5    average clarity

6  Fratelli   four year old can really fly and seemingly has only one speed challenger in the 7 horse especially with Maldonado up.........1st time Prat (white hot) and for a gelding who only needs to repeat his latest for his new trainer Andrew Lerner 1st out following the claim

8  Offshore   connections likely will have their fingers crossed that the 6 and the 7 battle it out setting too fast of a pace.........gelding appears better on the dirt but hasn't seen it in quite some time........recent drills are stout.....seems ready for a big effort

4  Quick Finish   another where the connections likely will have their fingers crossed that the 6 and the 7 battle it out setting too fast of a pace........if that is the case he and our 2nd choice should be the two runners next in line to take over the lead in the stretch or late turn

3  Agamemnon

7  Principe Carlo

race 6    average clarity

9  Comradery   both lifetime turf races for this three year old colt are par like efforts for the MSW level at SA........1st time Rispoli making for a turf jock upgrade and racing at a distance which should be a plus as this colt is bred to appreciate 9F of grass........that and this race has a distinct lack of speed and he has some

4  My Indy   four year old colt has talent but he has broken slow in all three lifetime starts.......but he does have some early gas especially in this spot so if he doesn't break too badly he should get an advantageous up close position in a race shape that seemingly favors speed

6  Frasard   0 for 12 and counting but he gets a significant rider upgrade to Prat and he just worked a strong near bullet 4F work just 5 days ago.......despite his inability to get to the winners circle he still seems awfully dangerous in this spot

2  War Path

5  Juror

race 7    average clarity

8  Howbeit   latest race is his lifetime best and fits solidly here......believe that the connections were lured into dropping this colt to take advantage of this 40K claiming race restricted to three year old runners.......if he handles the quick turn around of 12 days he should be very tough today for O'Neill and company

7  Drippin Sauce   not much speed lined up in the affair and this three year old has a touch of it.......and he gets Prat for the first time in 8 races and when the hot jock rode 8 races back he won by fun.........a.m. prowess of late is strong........hard not to like

4  Annie's Boy   with the scratch of number 11 Uncaptured Hero this gelding seems to own the best speed in the race and draws Maldonado who does his best work on the front end of things........three year old is 3 for 3 loose on the lead on "fast" tracks albeit at much weaker racing venues than SA.........but then again he won those races by an average of 4+ lengths.........should be a price

6  Leprino

1  Hidden Promise

race 8    average clarity

5  Border Town   seems to find trouble in a race and that is with Prat constantly riding time racing as a gelding today seems smore significant than it usually is........and........his recent 3 work series preparing for today is eye-popping.......believe he is sitting on a big race...maybe his best ever

4  North County Guy   very talented five year old had a predicable wide trip in his latest from a nasty post where he fired his lifetime best ever lifetime best........better post today.........hard not seeing this gelding not being a major player here

8  Marckie's Water   best at SA on the the turf and he also he gets to race at his favorite distance.......that might be the impetus for today's drop into a $62,500 tag to face softer as the next SA meeting is 2 1/2 months away........if that is case as opposed to being a diminishing sort - lookout

2  Zestful

3  Maestro Dearte

race 9    average clarity

7  Nesbitt   trainer Art Sherman over the years has often been at his most dangerous 3rd out following a layoff which is the case today........that and if this gelding holds form he should be awfully tough with the drop into 16nw2 claiming from 25Knw2 claiming.......and he gets a total of 9 lbs off - 7 with the bug boy up & 2 for entering for 14K..........such a deal

8  King Parker   best drill in quite some time hints at a forward move for this gelding.......that and Craig Lewis for the 2nd straight race raises his claiming price........and.........white hot Prat sticks with the four year old for the 3rd straight time

9  Etterbay Ucklay   all three lifetime sprints fit solidly at today's racing level........and 6 1/2 furlongs of dirt seems like a good fit for this Ellis four year old gelding who comes from far back

10  Sorriso

13  Convex

6  Bedrock
