Del Mar for Friday 6 November
Take note that this year's special publication for the Breeders Cup at Keeneland covers both days but with only a comment for the top choice. (also take note that the 6 special pubs. are finished and you will need to purchase the Breeders Cup publications).Â
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â average clarity
6 Refi Now  takes the ever dangerous drop from MSW racing into low level MC.......two year old owns some speed in a race that lacks the commodity........stout rider/trainer/owner trio at the helm.......hard not to like
5 Ghoster  another dropping out of MSW racing for the 1st time........gets the "full monty today"......1sr time racing as a gelding - 1st time blinkers - 1st racing on the dirt.........only cost $27K at sale so the drop into MC32K does not concern me very much
7 Flash of Glory  small circuit invader (Alb) did beat 5 of 9 foes at Alb in a 50K Stakes race........and like our 2nd selection he has some upside potential as he also is a 1st time gelding
2Â Stone's River
race 2Â Â average clarity
2 Kleen Karma  2 of her 5 lifetime grass races were run at Del Mar and they stand out as her two best.......her one at today's one mile distance is her lifetime best Santucci fig and is 2 lengths better than par.......nobody else in this field has come close that fig.......hopefully hopping on her favorite surface will bring it out of her
7 Almost a Factor  solid prolonged work regiment for this Carla Gaines filly who has been absent since 22 March........seems like the best of those lined up that come from out of it
1 Empress of Fire  filly owns a 2nd breaking from the one hole and a win breaking from the 2 hole (both turf routes and both smooth journeys)........that bodes well for his chances today if her new jock can work out a good trip
5Â Donut Girl
race 3Â Â average clarity
6 Daniel the Dreamer  three year old filly has a nice mid pack running style when running in sprints and seemingly gets plenty of pace up front to help her cause
3 Norma's Love  jury is still out if this filly handles conventional dirt but if she does she should be tough dropping to the lowest level of her life.......tough call
1 Miss Kitness  away since January but her prolonged work regiment (and with some works of merit now and then) hints she is meant and ready to roll.......won her only race on the Del Mar surface despite a slightly tardy start and a wide trip albeit on a "good" track.......should be in the mix from the get go
2Â Ever Vigilant
5Â Flawless Gem
race 4Â Â average clarity
4 Zipper Mischief  very solid races at Del Mar in 5F turf races.......that and I like her last race at SA where she made an early move in a 5 1/2 turf sprint where she ran 55:3 for 5F.......don't see anyone in here capable of that
1 Coalinga Road  big move forward in his latest which is hidden by a bad trip.......if she doesn't bounce off of the effort she has a good shot at making it 2 for 2 at the 5F turf distance at Del Mar
5 Hit the Seam  speed of the speed in this abbreviated turf sprint of 5F.......but the fractions best be reasonable or this one likely flattens out late
8Â Sunrise Journey
7Â Brix
race 5Â Â below average clarity
3 Black Storm  trainer seems to be in "win mode" so with that in mind this 2 level drop in claiming is more valid for Mullins than it usually would be for the veteran trainer..........hot rider & trainer combo as in 4 for their last 8
5 Awhitesportcoat  2 for 2 racing at Del Mar at today's 6 1/2 furlong distance.......both wins were made with a drop in claiming........last race 12.5K - today's race 8K.......seems well meant and quite dangerous
8 Autumn Day  trainer is solid route to sprint and 2nd out following a layoff.......both are the case here......10 lbs apprentice Jessica Pyfer is up for the 1sr time and the young rider is off to a wonderful start........sharp 34:1 bullet put in 6 days ago should help this gelding adapt to sprint racing following 3 consecutive route races
2Â Burn Me Twice
1Â Quality Line
race 6Â Â below average clarity
5 My Pearl Girl  big awakening in her 1st grass race (and 1st route race) in an MC80K run way back in Nov 19.........in for MC50K so you would think Knapp would have her ready which really isn't that difficult to do in a race of only 5F on the grass........like her chances if that is the case
1 Cherry City  both lifetime MSW turf sprints should fine fine at today's lower level............Glatt is solid MSW to MC and 3rd out following a layoff both of which are the case this afternoon
6 Vangogo  dangerous speed in this spot especially with the cut back in distance and the 7 lbs weight break........trainer has had a nice 2020 albeit with limited starters
7Â Mojo Mama
4Â Cocoa Cents
race 7Â Â below average clarity
5 Loves Wins  proven "fresh" as she scored in her MSW debut way back in May.......works say that she is meant and ready once again and she draws the red hot Abel Cedillo........two year old filly owns a pedigree that is as good as anyone in the field to get the 7F
1 Starlight Stroll  another with a strong pedigree to get 7F.........drawing the one hole at the 7F distance is no picnic but Maldonado is up and the good gate jock has a filly with some speed to help his cause......filly won at 1st asking at GG on the AW but she has a pedigree that should handle the real thing.......and she is a sibling to 3 Stakes winners
10 Governor Goteven  filly is 3 for 3 and definitely owns the best credentials in the race......but.......Walter Solis is now the trainer and when last seen he had plenty of trouble winning races.......well, actually any race.......but then again he once did OK in the win department
2Â Eddie's New Dream
3Â Dylans Wid Cat
race 8Â Â below average clarity
5 St Helena  ran evenly in her MSW debut in the 9 October version of this one mile grass race for Cal-bred maidens........and she went off 25 to 1 hinting the race was a tune-up.........mom has tossed three grass winners from 5 starters and Mike Puype is much better with "2nd time grass" and "2nd time route" runners
1 Sideways Suances  smooth run (and from the one post) in her 2nd lifetime start which was also in the aforementioned 9 October one mile grass race........and when it comes to "2nd time grass" and "2nd time route" Mullins is as good as it gets
2 Warren's Candy Girl  on the improve with each start and if she manages another mover in the desired direction she has as good a shot at visiting the winners circle as anyone in the field
8Â Big Stretch
3Â Miss Ever Ready
9 Sensible Cat
