Del Mar for Friday 20 November 2020

Not an easy card to decipher today but Saturday's card is better and with GG now closed there are some big fields on the Sunday card

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

5  J T's A. T. M.   good history competing on conventional dirt at 5 1/2F, 6F & 6 1/2F at SA and Lrc and seems best suited for 6F..........very impressive 58:2 H best of 83 five furlong work at LA on Nov 1st..........first dirt race at Del Mar but this gelding has competed well on many different surfaces so I doubt Del Mar dirt will be a problem........five year old will be a part of things from the opening bell

2  Littlebitamedal   drops for the 3rd straight time but this time around Art Sherman gets Prat to ride hinting his gelding is doing well........that and exits a fast heat at the 20K level where he earned a number that fits fine today despite running 5th beaten by 6L

6  Short of Ez   turf to dirt and drops into claiming for the 1st time in 7 races.........trainer starts few year in and year out but you better take note when she does.......one concern is this gelding's lack of prowess at Dmr

race 2    below average clarity

1  Texas Wedge   Peter Miller's five year old gelding has had excuses in his last 5 races......poor journeys in 4 of them and didn't take to a very yl turf course at Pim.........good post and back to Prat who has a good history on this gelding.........mid pack runner should get a good trip sitting a few lengths behind what should be a lively pace up front thus enhancing his chances of success

3  Mr Vargas   six year old needed a break and Koriner wisely gave him one..........he has been away since 25 Sept and in the interim worked sharply preparing to race on a turf course that he appreciates.........speedster will need to put away the 4 horse but note that his challenger for the lead cashes it in late

5  Chaos Theory   powerful late runner in abbreviated turf sprints who shows up every time (10 5 1 1 3) and as mentioned above he should get a lively pace up front enhancing his chances of success

race 3    below average clarity

1  Unbroken Star   runs well off of short rest and 4 weeks since his latest qualifies for that........and his last race is a par like number when you adjust for a wide trip.......1st time racing as far as 9F on the dirt but since the blinkers were put on he owns a record of (3 2 0 1) at 1 1/6 and he acts like an extra 1/16 to negotiate will not be a problem

4  Zestful   should be able to grab the lead and he owns a good history racing turf to main track surfaces including a powerful win at Lrc off of 38 days rest.........grass race 42 days ago........hmmmm

2  The Stiff   believe the meets leading jock will sit dead last down the back-stretch letting this three year old relax and make a strong move in the stretch

race 4    average clarity

4  I Give Up   blinkers on likely to shake this filly up some and find her two efforts run in her 1st two turf endeavors in races run last winter.......both efforts are key races and better than they appear in print and would likely win this race with a better trip........that and her recent works are improved and that is rather subtle.......should be a nice price-a-rue

1  Bristol Bayou   Shirreffs runners of late are firing some big efforts some of them seemingly out of nowhere........and today's jock Victor Espinoza has been on a few of them........so lookout today with the drop into MC for the 1st time with this 10 start maiden

7  Let's Go Now   so far this filly has been a one and done type so you would surmise the trainer will have her ready as it maybe a long time until she can race again.......scratched on Saturday out of a MSW race for today's softer level........and so often that move in S Cal is a good one much more than any circuit I know of in the USA.......loose lips in the R.O. ????

2  Cover Version

race 5    average clarity

5  Little No Way   trainer appears to have snapped out of a slump and he gets the meets leading rider to accept the mount on this gelding who ran his lifetime best two back (12F turf to 8F dirt)..........9F turf in latest and 8 furlong of dirt today.......it's not rocket science

1  In the Deep   vastly improved since trainer Don Schnell turned this gelding into a route runner.......latest race run 2 months ago at Prm won't get the job done but his two efforts run prior to that would make him tough today........trainer has decent success with shippers

2  Write Me a Song   trainer Papaprodromou took over the training 3 races back and got this five year old to run a better than looks in print 3rd at Dmr at today's 8K level......he must of liked what he saw as he stepped his newbie up to 10K but he ran poorly........he stepped up him again which likely was nothing more than a gimme to drop back to 8K without much threat of being claimed........apprentice jock and her 7 lbs weight break up.........look for Pyfer to go after the lead and try to wire the field

8  Vodka Twist

4  R Cha Cha

race 6    below average clarity

7  Clayton Delaney   horrid trip in his 1st on the lawn hides an effort that suggests he loves the grass.......Cedillo was in a slump at the time but he is red hot now.........1st at a route but his pedigree for it is decent to get a mile of sod.........should be a price

5  First Prez   three year old colt showed plenty of life in his MSW debut after stumbling at the start in a 5 1/2F grass race........the history of his siblings suggest two turns of turf will not be a problem.........good to see Rispoli staying put who will help this youngster's chances of stating his career with 2 consecutive wins

1  Rustic Canyon   smooth running sort and a good post for Gonzalez to work with.........like last time this five year old should sit pretty stalking our 4th selection or maybe even leading this affair.......hard not to like

6  Fly to Mars

3  Sea of Liberty

race 7    average clarity

5  Martique Miss   works are numerous and very strong which were put in over at LA especially for two year old Cal bred filly debuting in a MC50K for state-breds......a ton if this youngster handles the new surface and runs as well in the p.m. as she has trained in the a.m.

1  Chevelita   turf to dirt and MSW to MC......and......her turf race was par like for today's lower level.......that and I like her pedigree for the dirt a bit more than for the sod........trainer & rider are 48% win with their last 21 over the last two months........yikes

2  Brilliant Cut   turf to dirt and MSW to MC50K........retains Rispoli for the 4th straight race.......nice 4 works series........another who should be a tough cookie

8  Purda Vita

9  Royal Blend

race 8    below average clarity

3  That Corey   bet to favorite in his MSW debut (which was run at 5 1/2F on the sod at SA) but after stalking the pace in good striking position this Ben Cecil two year old colt faded to a 2 1/4L beaten 5th.......combine today's cut back of one half of a furlong with his OK debut under his belt and he likely improves enough to fight for the right to visit the circle of joy

5  Theluteismine   tough trip in his MSW debut which was in a turf route.......did well to only be beat by 3 1/4 lengths at the wire.......Prat takes the mount for the 1st time for this Peter Miller two year old which is always a dangerous proposition........gelding will need a better start than he had in his debut with the significant cut back in distance of 8F to 5F......nice to see his last preparatory work (and a good work at that) is out of the gate

1  Crossword   tossed a clunker in his MSW debut (on the dirt) as the 2nd choice but he did flash some speed.......turf today and gets a decent post to work with and has a pedigree that hints turf will be a plus.......deserves a 2nd chance?

4  Gordy's Boy

8  Gabby Hayes
