Del Mar for Saturday 21 November 2020

Decent card today and some big fields on Sunday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Blackout   seven year old seems better suited to 5 furlong turf races than turf 5 1/2 furlong turf races.......so the fact that he earned a Santucci fig that is one length better than par in his latest grass race at SA at 5 1/2F suggests he should run even better today at 5F.......combine that with a drop in claiming and you have one dangerous Peter Miller & Flavien Pratt gelding

5  Mystery Messenger  great time to drop this four year old following a voided claim as you need a big set of you know what to claim following a voided claim.........works hint this gelding has rebounded physically speaking to some degree......we shall find out about 12:30 p.m. pacific

3  Portando   plenty of speed signed up to set a fast pace which should aid this gelding who should be dead last early and with only five foes to negogiote (thru or around) come stretch time

race 2    above average clarity

4  Midcourt   only one race in his last eight wouldn't be ultra tough for today's competition to overcome.......that and he won the 2019 version of this race by 6 lengths.......trainer appears to be in go mode to boot

3  Royal Ship   decent better than they look back to back races in Grade 2 races on the grass.......1st ever on fast rated dirt today but he sure is training well on the Dmr main track including a big 7F work only 8 days ago........where it is apparent what the other 3 signed up can do this fellow has upside potential

2  Stellar Sound   lifetime best by a wide margin in her latest which was run off of an 8 month hiatus from the game......needs another quantum leap once again today versus the guys.......stranger things have happened

race 3    average clarity

5  Zelaia  filly has only been on conventional dirt four times winning 3 and running 2nd in another........and........her career best was also run on the conventional dirt.........smart move to ship to Del Mar 1st out following the Tamayo claim.......trainer is 33% win 1st following a claim and 32% win up multiple levels with a large sampling......both are the case today

1  No Cover Charge   like our top choice this filly is an invader from GG.........very good history racing off of short rest........that is the case today for this three year old who won her only race to date on conventional dirt.......and that race was also the only time that her connections risked her for a claiming tag........up for a tag today

7  Trouville   race has enough speed signed up that it might play into the hands of this late running three year old filly........and she once again gets Prat on her back.....should be motoring late

6  Miss Fraulein

race 4    average clarity

6  Kershaw   five year old gelding gets almost everything he appreciates as in a one mile race - the Del Mar main track - a fast track - and ample time between starts........and his a.m. prowess is better now than it was last summer......hard not to like

2  Promise Nothing   three year old gelding is improving one baby step at a time and one of his forward moves is his one mile race 2 back where he earned his lifetime best number which his hidden to some degree........1st time gelding and with just what you want to see as improved works........should get ignored by the betting public

3  Popular Kid   another who gets multiple factors that he responds to positively.........and today he gets a jock upgrade to Prat who rides few Miller horses that are not "live"

1  Champagneonme

race 5    average clarity

4  Mac Daddy Too   very solid move forward with the blinkers put on in this colt's latest which was a MSW 5F turf sprint.......number earned is quite a bit better than par........owns solid early speed and this race lacks it.........so this two year old from the O'Neill barn should have a great chance at getting loose on the lead and with Prat in the irons

2  Endless Sunset   bet hard in his MSW debut on the AW at GG 5 weeks ago in a dirt sprint.........and he owns a better than average pedigree for a route and the turf........trainer has been firing on all cylinders of late and some of his success is teaming up with Umberto Rispoli

6  By Moonlight  shuffled back to last (15 lengths back) when last seen on 16 Oct in a 5 1/2F turf race and following the dubious start he showed plenty of life on the grass.........rider upgrade especially for a grass race.......1st at a route but he owns an OK pedigree for one.........dangerous sort

5  Labor Union

8  Marconis

race 6    average clarity

6  Exotic West   Bob Baffert two year old 1st timer is training "Baffert strong" and that of course is one dangerous proposition for the opposition as in 37% win with his last 223 MSW 1st time starters.......that folks is a phenomenal number.........enough said

1  Leia Marie   turf to dirt scenario today and this O'Neill filly cuts back in distance........that says she should finish up with vigor at the 6 1/2 furlong sprint distance while many in the field will not.........and she also gets 1st time Prat

5  Empire House   Wong 1st timer didn't come cheap and in all likelihood she is one of the more expensive youngsters to ever wind up in his barn.........works are decent.........I imagine the trainer will be out to impress his owner.......I would be

7  Peachtree Road

race 7    average clarity

2  Hartel   four year old has been absent since mid November 2019 but Miller has put copious drills into his returnee who might own the best early speed in a race that lacks it........such a prolonged work regiment suggests Miller really wants this fellow to win fresh off of the bench.......as does the fact Prat is aboard.......Prat has won 10 of his last 22 mounts riding for Miller

3  Johnny Podres   just fired his lifetime best with the fronts on in a turf sprint for the 1st time.......the effort is better than par........another change for today in 1st time blinkers likely to get him to sit closer in the early stages of this abbreviated turf sprint of 5F.........and he gets to run in a protected race where the par is about two lengths easier........such a deal.......hard not to like

8  Caerulean   on the improve with each and every race........away since 8 August but he shows a nice tightly spaced 5 work series........should be in the mix from the get go and fits fine if his improving trend continues

5  Combat Zone

1  Kris' Wild Kat

race 8    average clarity

7  Square Root   sprint turf - route turf - dirt sprint today for 3rd lifetime start should give this O'Neill colt plenty of endurance to handle 6 1/2F provided he takes to the dirt as well as he preformed on the grass in his latest......pedigree for it is OK as are his dirt drills......should be in the mix from the get go

2  Chipper   yet to fire anything close in 2020 to two efforts he ran in 2019 that would likely take down this MSW race........and both of those races are hidden by 5L of trip trouble.......Prat remains up for a fifth straight time hinting Glatt might be sending out the 2019 version of this three year old gelding

4  Lil Richards Bello   both of this gelding's races run at SA are par like.......but his race at Del Mar does not as in about 3 or 4 lengths over par........so was it the surface or just an off day.......we shall find out today

3  Brace for Impact

8  Flying Charlie

race 9    average clarity

9  Colosi   tough post but this race lacks speed and this five year old appears to have enough to not get caught too wide........might be an outstanding claim by Glatt as this five year old seems to behave better with the blinkers off........race two back was quite the run but compromised greatly by a wide trip pressing a solid pace........Santucci fig earned was about 8L better than par for today's 25K level......if this fellow is physically OK he can be very tough here

3  Acker   six year old has steadily declined but his recent race and improved a.m. work hint he is on the rebound.......and look who wants the mount now.......Flavien Prat - quite the upgrade from who was up in this guy's last two races

11 AE  Mithqaal   best at today's 1 1/16 turf distance (4 2 1 1) and if he draws in he sure appears to have enough speed in this spot to grab the lead despite his outer-most post........and he seems capable of winning even if he ends up in a stalking position

4  Worthy Turk

8  French Getaway

1  Justin's Quest
